"You can have the results you say you want, or you can have all the reasons in the world why you can’t have them. But you can’t have both. Reasons or results. You get to choose."

LIVING MY LIFE NOW 18/01/2010

I have been thinking about living in the moment.  This is a reminder for me, because as much as I love this approach to life, I tend to worry too much and forget to enjoy now!

To me, living in the moment requires me to know what my medium and long term goals are.  It needs me to know what makes me happy, what feeds my soul, what gives me energy.

With that knowledge I can make the choices right now that are best for me.

Living in the moment means not putting things off until I reach my goals.  Sure I can reward myself for reaching those goals, but I refuse to live in limbo until they are reached.

Living in the moment means looking foward to things I have ahead of me, and even planning for those (40th birthday in July, swimming with dolphins in February), but also enjoying today.

Living in the moment means taking advantage of all life has to offer.

Friday night I walked on a pier at sunset with my sister and nephew.  I kicked off my shoes and played a game with my nephew about the feel of the smooth (new) and wobbly (old) boards.  I had such a great time doing such a simple thing.  Right then I was truly living in the moment.

This morning I walked in the rain, head high and arms covered in goosebumps...  but I was not living in the moment.  I was commentating the moment in my head.

I need to make more of an effort to just BE and not analyse.

I need to worry about now and not just the past and the future.

I need to savour every moment life has to offer me.  This weekend 5 teenagers died in a car crash.  Life is unpredictable.

Hopefully blogging this and thinking about the fun I had on Friday will help me to live in the moment more often!
